Chinese New Year decorations this year is definitely much more interesting and exciting than those of the previous years.
Besides the typical items of lanterns and banners, there are other interesting and unique decorative items for this festive season.
There is fortune dog figurine, which is a spin-off of the fortune cat or Zhao Cai Mao, singing golden bullfrog, and spinning lantern.
But it is those in a Petaling Street shop that the writer found most interesting.
There is a god of prosperity figurine or Chai Shen that moves and sings Gong Xi Fa Chai and emits sound of firecrackers as well.“It is one of the main attractions at the shop and we even have an item which features the Chai Shen popping out of a golden basket,” said Nan Thong Gifts and Decor Sdn Bhd's director Hanson Saw.
“I do believe that Chinese New Year is becoming more commercialised as the years go by. This means more interesting and unique decorations would be in the offering,” he said.
Another interesting item in the market is an electronic firecracker, which is also available in the Petaling Street area.
Instead of lighting it up, at the touch of a button, the firecracker will make real life firecracker sound.
