'Military Fortress on top of a hill'
Located South - East of Penang Island is the mighty military fortress built in 1930's by the British to protect the island from enemies. Situated on 20 acres of land, it is an integrated fortress constructed on what is now called Bukit Batu Maung. The British Royal Engineers and a work force comprises of local labourers blasted and dug into the hill to create a fort with underground military tunnels, intelligence and logistic center, halls, offices, ventilation shafts, canon firing bays, sleeping quarters, cook houses as well as medical infirmary.

Come face to face with the largest military operations complex in Malaysia, the base of the regiment or departmental corps where servicemen were trained. Whether you are visitor from overseas or local resident, a soldier or a lay person, you will find something that will interest you: history, culture, military gadgets, artifacts and relics or the mere beauty of the fortress.
